Mandalay gold course in full swing

July 2009

Australian golfing legend, Peter Thomson’s latest Victorian golf course development ‘Mandalay at Beveridge’ is fast taking shape and is set to offer the first residential golfing lifestyle to the Shire of Mitchell.

The course, architecturally designed by Thomson Perrett, is the result of one of Victoria’s most successful golf course design partnerships composed of two of the biggest names in golfing design - five time British Open Championship winner Peter Thomson, and esteemed landscape architect Ross Perrett.

Thomson Perrett’s 18-hole golf course masterpiece will form the central focus for the burgeoning new community which is located just 50 kilometres north of Melbourne’s CBD and expected to yield a population of approximately 6000 people.

Offering prospective residents a slice of an architecturally designed 18-hole golf course as part of the landscape and heralding a new era of prestige golf course living, some very fortunate residents will have a birds eye view of ‘birdies’, ‘eagles’ and more with limited residential allotments positioned directly on the boundary of the course.

Buyers of the estate have been quick to recognise the value of the generous home sites overlooking the golf course, snapping them up almost as quickly as they enter the market.

With almost 20 years in business together, and having designed world class golf courses all over the globe including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, UK and Australasia, Thomson Perrett seemed the logical choice to create the impressive course at Mandalay.

Designed to weave throughout the entire 260 hectare estate, the course occupies a significant 77 hectares, or 29 percent of the entire development, creating a lush green milieu for the residents to appreciate.

The construction on the first seven holes is underway, earthworks, drainage and irrigation are already complete and the first two holes are being prepared for grassing in time for spring.

A recycled water dam, which is positioned between the end of hole 10 and 18, is nearing completion and earthworks on five other holes is underway.

The golf course will be meticulously maintained, Club Mandalay, due to open around the end of 2011 will offer a bistro, restaurant and pro shop.

The private golf course will be maintained by the Mandalay Country Club, due to open simultaneously as the course, and will offer members a bistro, restaurant, pro shop and function area.

Prestigious golfing aside, ‘Mandalay at Beveridge’ is bursting at the seams with top quality facilities, offering residents a staggering 40 percent open space to enjoy, as well as a proposed commercial precinct, proposed primary school and Club Mandalay which will include a gymnasium, swimming pool and tennis courts, café and much more.

“The Mandalay Golf Course will be a welcome addition to daily fee paying golf in the rapidly expanding northern suburbs of Melbourne. The course will have generous fairways set in an indigenous grassy woodland setting.

Mandalay golf course project architect, Justin Trott, hails the project’s eco-friendly elements and revegetation.

“ The course will feature 30 hectares of native revegetation as part of the golf course’s landscape, which is the equivalent to over 300,000 native trees, shrubs and grasses.

“ Here at Thomson Perrett we pride ourselves on designing sustainable golf courses, so at Mandalay, we have designed the course to harvest the storm water run off from adjoining residential precincts which will be used to irrigate the golf course” Mr Trott said.
